Program: Aphasia and Communication Disabilities Program

Description of Services: Offers a wide range of programs and services to maximize the independence, personal empowerment and community participation of people with disabilities

Aphasia and Communication Disabilities Program
  • weekly therapeutic programming for adults (18 years and older) with aphasia and other communication disabilities caused by stroke, brain injury, or brain illness such as Primary Progressive Aphasia, Parkinson's Disease or Multiple Sclerosis thus making it hard to talk, to understand spoken words as well as to read and write
Adult Conversation Groups:
  • provide mutual and peer support
  • encourage the use of supportive communication strategies
  • incorporate Life History Communication books and communication aids
  • volunteer and staff work together to design and develop "aphasia-friendly" and communicative accessible programs

Other services:
  • information and referral
  • advocacy, education, and awareness raising
  • workshops for clients, families, and volunteers
